Muckraker:
A well-known, powerful family with a shocking secret. Two journalists, living one hundred years apart, both digging for the truth.
It’s 1920 on Minneapolis’s Newspaper Row and aspiring journalist Bizzie Johansen is ready to do whatever it takes to make it — even if that means going undercover. She’ll come face to face with characters who will both challenge and frighten her, befriend and encourage her as she digs for the truth. But, when she stumbles across a shocking secret about one of Minnesota’s most powerful and well-known families, she is silenced.
Fast-forward one hundred years and newbie reporter Sophie McHale is desperate to prove she can hack it at a trendy and cutting-edge news agency, News Now Online. When she shows up for an interview with gubernatorial candidate Morris Hartman, grandson of the famous Dr. Hartman, she’s already bored. But, after a series of events, she realizes that the Hartman family could be hiding a dark secret.
Will Sophie really have what she needs to reveal the truth about the Hartman family for both her sake and Bizzie’s?
MAGGIE SONNEK - Author
Maggie Sonnek is a curious copywriter, small-town Minnesota momma, and iced coffee aficionado. She cut her teeth in a production booth at an ABC affiliate TV news station in Duluth, Minn., where she learned folks in northern Minnesota care more about an impending snow-pocalypse than what happened at a school board meeting. In fact, it was a morning show focused on a blustery blizzard that helped her team win an Emmy.
She’s now a freelance writer, wife, and momma to three kids plus one golden retriever (affectionally called The Red Beast) and two cats. They live in Wabasha, Minn., a quaint river town nestled between the bluffs of southeastern Minnesota and the Mississippi River.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
