Dakota hruska - Author

Dakota Hruska is an Iowa native, raising her family in the same little town she grew up in. Since a very young age, she has always loved horses; getting her first pony, Moxie, when she was 4 years old. As she grew older and entered high school, she discovered she loved to use words to inspire and tell a story.

After graduating from Iowa State University she married her ‘almost high school sweetheart’ (that’s a story for another day), and they worked hard to find a small acreage close to home where they both grew up. Shortly after, they welcomed their daughter Arietta, and are now eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby #2 this winter.

During this time, Dakota and her dad found themselves with the possibility of buying a young Clydesdale colt that needed a home, an opportunity neither of them could say “no” to. They brought ‘Moose’ the Clydesdale home when he was just a few months old, and about the size of Dakota’s mustang mare - only about 12 hands or 4 feet high. Today he towers over everyone, standing close to 18 hands -that’s about 6 feet tall at his shoulder!

In Dakota’s free time, she enjoys growing her small business, Moxie Homestead, where she promotes learning how to grow your own food and make from-scratch foods, sells her handmade leather work and candles, and of course, shares the antics of all of the animals on the homestead. Her daughter and husband help her take care of two horses, two goats, three dogs, and multiple chickens and ducks. When she’s not on the homestead she enjoys long distance running, spending time with family and friends, and brainstorming ideas to add to the Clydesdale Series!
