Fowl Play
review for ‘fowl play’
'Right off the bat, the chicken yard scene reminded me of my youth, taking care of 300 chickens per year when my family lived on a farm. From that fond memory, I knew this book was going to be a fun read, even though it involved a couple of deceased individuals. The pace, scenes, dialogue, and situations are set up well; think 'Murder She Wrote meets Green Acres'. I felt as if I were one of Lone Tree's citizens, myself. I'm looking forward to the next installment in The Accidental Farmer Series by Amy Gregg.'

Former Twin Cities socialite Lilly Schmidt struggles to get her grand plan for agritourism off and running in Lone Tree, MN; there always seems to be a bump in the road. The latest addition is the new veterinarian in town. Who happens to be terribly single.
It’s time for the town’s late summer festival, which is a perfect place for tempers and long-held secrets to heat up, dredging up the past that should have stayed long buried. But those aren’t the only things boiling over: Lilly also must face matters of the heart as things start getting weird between her and her once-ex-boyfriend, now hired hand, Ryan.
When the son of one of Lone Tree’s founding families is found dead at the yearly celebration, Lilly finds herself pulled once more into figuring out who the newest murderer is in town before it is too late.
Fiction, Cozy Mystery
Second book in the Accidental Farmer Mystery Series
reviews from Farmed & dangerous
"I enjoyed the book. It was a perfect cozy mystery with a perfect length to read in the afternoon. There were enough little hints early on in the story that the ending wasn't a complete surprise - but there were enough red herrings to throw readers off the trail too. The conflict between city living and country life sometimes felt just a little contrived, but overall was a fun part of the book, too - and it's always more interesting to read a book with some local Minnesota flair. I would definitely recommend it to people I know who like cozy mysteries, especially those who are familiar with rural Minnesota and small-town characteristics."

"From the title, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this story definitely had me hooked! I love true crime, and Amy Gregg (author) kept me on the edge of my seat wondering where the story would take me. Much like Lilly, I was constantly finding myself thinking myself into circles about different suspects. In addition to the crime aspect of the plot, Gregg added in a lot of other themes, such as urban v. rural dichotomies and perceptions, family secrets and dysfunction, and the anxiety of returning to your past. I could picture Lone Tree, the farm, and the house and could hear the voices of the characters in my head so clearly with how they were written. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing how the characters develop across books, as Gregg may have finished up the crime, but all other plot points are still in process, keeping me still wanting more!"
